Android switch to Nextcloud Contacts
The following guide describes how to switch your Android contacts from internal or Google to Nextcloud.
If not already enabled, you need your Nextcloud administrator to enable the "Contacts" app first:
- My Account -> Apps -> Contacts -> Enable
On your Smartphone:
- BACKUP YOUR CONTACTS FIRST!
Guide: https://www.ullright.org/ullWiki/show/android-backup-guide
Section "App Specific Backups" -> "Contacts app" - Then delete all existing contacts. Sadly the option to delete all contacts was removed by Google some time ago. Here is an alternative solution: https://www.ullright.org/ullWiki/show/android-delete-all-contacts
- Install the "DAVx?" app and start it
- Allow the app to run in the background (exclude from battery saving)
- Create a new account
- Enter your Nextcloud baseurl. Example: https://nextcloud.example.com
- Enter your username and password
- Select the addressbook you want to synchronize (usually "Contacts")
- Click the "synchronize" icon (two arrows form a circle)
- Settings -> Sync every 2 hours
- Now launch the android "Contacts" app, got to Menu -> Settings -> Import
- Select "Import from SD card or internal storage"
- !!! Select DAVx address book "Contacts" !!!
- Select the .vcf file created during backup above
- Wait until import has finished
- Open the nextcloud website and check if all contacts are visible here.
